Somalia is currently facing the worst drought in 40 years. As in other countries, hunger has increased, amid a series of global shocks affecting the supply of food, including COVID-19-related supply chain problems, extreme weather events, and more recently high food and energy prices exacerbated by the war in Ukraine. According to the recent Africa¡¯s Pulse, in Sub-Saharan Africa, 140 million people were acutely food insecure in 2022, up from 120 million in 2021, and about 284 million of Africa¡¯s population are undernourished. Food security crises are becoming more frequent and deeper in the continent. To realize a thriving and food secure future for Somalia, it will need investment in climate-resilient solutions, smallholder farmers, and addressing of conflict situations in the country.
